Parental Survey	All students have been given a survey for their parents to complete that asks a wide range of questions about the College performance. We would be very grateful if parents would complete this and return to their child’s tutor.			Yes
Additional Year 11 Parents' Evening	We would like to invite parents and students to a brief presentation about what we are doing as a College to meet the needs of our current Year 11 students. The event will take place on Tuesday 20 October in the Michael Caddy Centre.	It will start at 6.00 pm and finish at 7.00 pm. However, it will be repeated at 7.15 pm, finishing at 8.15 pm. College Open Evening - Thursday 1st October 6pm	Our Open Evening starts at 6pm on Thursday 1st October. Presentations in the Drama Studio will start at 6pm, 6.45pm and 7.30pm and each presentation will be followed by student led tours of the College.

Swine Flu	All Parents and Carers have recieved a letter from the Principal about Swine Flu.
Calling all Year 9s for 2009!	Students have been given a research project for GCSE Media Studies to complete over the Summer break.	The idea of this is to start investigating an aspect of ‘The Media’ to prepare you for the Autumn term where you will start your GCSE programme for Media Studies. Swine Flu Concerns	Parents will no doubt be aware of recent Swine Flu concerns. We currently know of no suspected cases involving our Students or Staff. We are liaising with the appropriate authorities and have plans in place should any incidents arise.
Year 10 & Year 11 GCSE Science Exams Revision Clinics	To help you prepare for the science exam, we are offering a series of after school revision clinics, starting at 3:05pm for 1 hour. There is no need to book, just turn up with your Revision Guide and any questions.
New ICT courses	Eggbuckland is offering a series of ICT based courses titled 'Keeping up with the grandkids' and 'Using eBay'.
Parent Support Adviser Booklet	A new information booklet from our Parent Support Adviser is now available.
Year 11 Subject Based Parents Evening	On Tuesday 24th February we are holding a subject-based Year 11 parents evening here at College from 3.30pm until 7pm. Appointment sheets have gone home with students.
Parents Internet Safety sessions on Review Day	We are offering sessions to parents on Internet safety, giving advice about potential problems to help your child stay safe while on the Internet. The session are on 27th November 4.30 – 5.30pm, 28th November 10–11am, 12-1pm and 2–3pm in the Library.	The sessions are being run by Keith Burtt a CEOP Ambassador.
Students in Years 7 and 8 able to join our Laptop for Learning scheme	We are giving students in Years 7 and Year 8 the opportunity to join our Laptop for Learning scheme and lease purchasing a laptop to use in where appropriate in lessons and at home.

New term arrangements letter from Principal	The letter from the Principal containing information about the new term is now available.
Delay with SATS results	Due to the delay nationally with the marking of SATS papers, we are unable to issue results. At the latest parents should expect to recieve these by the start of next term.
Sports Day has been cancelled due to poor weather	Sports day has been cancelled due to the poor weather. Please make sure students come in prepared for lessons and in uniform.
Laptop for Learning Scheme available for students currently in Year 7	We are giving students in Years 7 the opportunity to join our Laptop for Learning scheme and lease purchasing a laptop to use in where appropriate in lessons and at home.
Tesco Computers for Schools vouchers	Tesco have again their Computers for School scheme. Customers of Tesco will receive one voucher for every £10 spent on shopping.
Investor in People Re-designation	We are very pleased to announce that the College was re-designated as an ‘Investor in People’ organisation. This award is given every three years in recognition of the high value the College puts in its staff and their development.	The process took place over two days and involved twenty five staff from the College being interviewed by an external assessor. She was very impressed by the professionalism and commitment shown by the staff.

Sparks Newsletter	The first edition of the new Sparks newsletter has been published.
Parents access to the Learning Gateway	From March we will be trialing access to our Learning Gateway for parents in Year 7. Using a computer with Internet access and a secure password parents will be able to access Attendance information, reports, letters home and newsletters etc.	More information about this will be available in your Review Day pack or contact Mr Burrell.
Students Provide Fresh Food	A newly established vegetable garden is currently supplying healthy, organic fresh vegetables for staff and students alike. Kitchen staff use vegetables daily that were planted by students as part of the College’s curriculum enrichment week during July.	The garden is tended to by some of our most vulnerable students and managed by Sue De Boo. Sue is not only a College Teaching Assistant but is also a member of the Royal Horticultural Society and a keen gardener.
Eco-schools Award	The College eco-club has now been running since September and has been a roaring success. The students have been working hard and have now been awarded the Eco-Schools bronze award.	As part of qualifying for the award we carried out a survey of all year 7 and 8 students and found out that the students and staff were keen to start recycling around the college and wanted to introduce more wildlife into the area.

Eggbuckland achieves the Becta ICT Mark	On the 30th June Eggbuckland achieved the Becta ICT Mark. The mark is given to schools who demonstrate a high level of ICT maturity across the school.
Enhancing Children’s Learning Through ICT Conference	On Tuesday 12th June Eggbuckland are leading a session for ITT students called 'Enhancing childrens learning through the use of ICT'. The conference starts at 9am.
Parent meeting to discuss the proposed changes to the College day	On Thursday 24th May at 6.30pm a meeting will be held in the Drama Studio to discuss the proposed changes to the College day.
Shadowing Carnegie	A group of students are shadowing the Carnegie book prize. The Carnegie prize is one of the most prestigious awards and students are asked to shadow the event by reading and choosing selected books and which author they think should win.	The students will choose which books they like best and their choices will be posted on the Carnegie web site along with their book reviews and their group picture. A panel of librarians will make the final choice and it will be announced in June.

New OFSTED Report	Our new OFSTED report is now available.
Book Week 2007 Myths & Legends: a celebration of the West Country	We had a really successful Book Week based on the theme of Myths & Legends in the West Country. Amongst our guest visitors and speakers to the library was Mr Whatty a local historian who spoke to the students about the history of Eggbuckland	To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday March 1st local author Lesley Howarth spoke to classes of children about her books and about how to write and get your work published.
Year 11 students leaders set the standard	Members of the year 11 student leadership group have been visiting the year 10 tutor groups. A selection of student leader representatives have taken part ranging from Year 11 Chair, STAs, Student Reps, Drama Icons, Sport Leaders and CAPs.	The aim is to help develop the year 10 student leadership team and later in the term for the year 10 Reps to shadow year 11s in their different roles.
National Golf Finals	The British Heart Foundation Championships begin again next month with four teams from Eggbuckland hoping to progress to regional and national finals.	After winning their regional round they enjoyed a fantastic two days at the Belfry Golf Club, staying at the Hotel, playing a practice round and playing in the National Final on a Championship Course.
Eggbuckland Wins Prestigious National Award for Innovation	We are proud to announce that we were singled out as being the most innovative in our communications with the wider community at the recent Specialist Schools and Academies Trust Conference in Birmingham.	We won the award for being the first school in the country to develop an electronic Individual Learning Plan (eILP), and this has been the focus of our really successful Review Day meetings with parents and students.
"The Grimm Fairytales"	Eggbuckland presnts the 'Grimm Fairytales' a drama showcase on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd November at 7pm in the Drama Hall. Tickets are £1 and available from the College.

Official opening of the Michael Caddy Centre	The new 8 classroom block 'The Michael Caddy Centre' will be officially opened today at 4.30pm by Helen Caddy.
Work has started on the College Sport Hall extension	Work has started on our new Sports Hall extension which will add new changing rooms, a seminar room and reception.

Who is Online? A Computer and Internet use Survey	During a tutor period on the 19th January all the students in the college completed a survey so we could find how many have access to a computer and an internet connection at home.
Holocaust - visit from Solly Irving	Solly Irving a survivor of the holocaust visited all Year 9 students yesterday. Use our discussion forum to share your thoughts after his visit.

Sixth Form Open Evening - 19th Janaury 6.00pm	The College is holding a Sixth Form Open Evening 19th January 2005 from 6.00pm, for students who interested in joining the sixth form from September 2006.
Michael Caddy Centre completed!	The keys to the Michael Caddy Centre were officially handed over today. The building will open to students on the 3rd January 2006.

Annual Report by Governors to Parents 2004-2005	The Annual Report by Governors to Parents has now been published.
New pictures of the Michael Caddy Centre	Building work is well underway and is on track for completion in December.
Technology Celebration Day 2005	The Faculty of Technology at the University of Plymouth hosted an event to celebrate the achievements of Design and Technology coursework.	Eggbuckland joined 30 other schools from across the South West region to display some of the best of this year’s work.
Year 11 Prom	The Year 11 Prom was held at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel on Wednesday July 6th.	Students turned up in their limos, the girls looking stunningly beautiful in their dresses and the boys amazingly handsome in their suits.

Michael Caddy Centre Update	Ryearch, our building contractors, are now well and truly on site and work is underway for our new 8-classroom block.	We are currently on schedule for completion in December this year, but we also know that, with our weather, anything could happen!
Artist in Residence	Adam Milford was invited in to the Art department as an Artist in Resident. He displayed some of his own abstract oil paintings in CS18.	Adam is an ex-student who studied Fine Art at Liverpool. It was exciting to have him back in College, working with 6th Form students and he was an inspiration for Key Stages 3 and 4 students.
Work starts on the Michael Caddy Centre	Work has started on the site of the college's £1.1m new building named the Michael Caddy Centre after the first principal of the college.
Eggwarts Staff Revue	The college staff performed for students in the staff revue EggWarts based on the famous Harry Potter stories.
Eggbuckland wins new Mini-Bus	A big thank-you to Ms. Smith for co-ordinating this years collection of mini-bus tokens from the Evening Herald. We collected over 115,000 tokens.
Student and Staff sponge Mr Curtis-Rouse	Last week in aid of charity Mr Curtis-Rouse agreed to be sponged by students and staff!
College Awards Evening Monday December 21st	On Monday 21st December the college will be celebrating the achievments of its students.
BBC Children in Need	A very big “Thank you” to pupils and staff for all their efforts for Children in Need. So far we have raised a massive £824.85p
Remembrance Day	Thursday 11th November commemorates the Armistice at the end of the First World War at 11.00am on the 11th November 1918.	To pay tribute to those who have died in the service of their country (in all conflicts) we will be honouring the dead with a two-minute silence at 10.50am on Thursday 11th November while student plays The Last Post in the central courtyard.
GOSW 14-19 Innovations Seminar	On Monday 18 October we are hosting the GOSW 14-19 Innovations seminar on ‘Student Involvement in their own Learning’.
New Computers in the Link	The 'link' in the library block has now had 18 new Hewlett-Packard computers and new printer installed.
New Year 8 Laptop Group	Students in the new Year 8 laptop group were given their laptops during a hand-out event with parents on the 8th September 2004.

25 Years of Eggbuckland - Gala Dinner	On 18th September at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel 100 current and past members of the staff held a reunion to celebrate 25 years of Eggbuckland.	The College opened on its wonderful site in September 1979 and has been over-subscribed ever since.
New Synthetic Turf Pitch	We are now the proud owners of a floodlit multi-purpose sports pitch thanks to a £250,000 investment from the New Opportunities Fund.	The new pitch will be used primarily for football, hockey, rugby and cricket by the College’s 1510 pupils, partner primary schools and the local community.
European Week of Languages	Throughout this week teachers were busy registering their classes in different languages.	Languages included were Albanian, Estonian, Finnish, Norwegian, Zulu and a host of more common European languages.
Industry Day 2004 Design Technology	As part of Y9 Industry Day technology once again worked with BAe Systems. Students worked in teams to design and make a promotional gift using CAD/CAM and workshop tools.	Students also had the opportunity to be trained to ride the new Segway human transporter developed by BAe systems in Plymouth.
Christian Union	Christian Union is an after-school club made up of pupils from all year groups, who meet together to encourage and support each other.	Meetings vary each week, so come along to find out more...
Peewits	Over the summer most of you stayed in Plymouth, even the UK. Students from this school and around Plymouth travelled to Adelboden as part of PEEWITS.	Picking up the 62nd Bristol Scouts, we headed to foreign lands, travelling for 26 hours through France, Belgium, Luxemburg and in to Switzerland.
Vocational Studies	I am pleased to report that our TVC (Tamar Valley Vocational) Group has completed yet another successful year.	There are three parts to their vocational studies; firstly, at Eggbuckland Community College Sixth Form they study for their ASDAN Key Skills Qualification in Communication, Number and IT.
